It comes from the Arabic Salib' a- meaning "Of the Cross". The original Salibas were the crucified followers of a diposed Spartan King in ancient Greece, the survivors fled to Lebbanon and Malta, where the two seperate branches developed. The Salib' a in Lebbanon and the Saliba in Malta.
