Akomah, as a part of the compound name Akomah-Mordi, is an Ebu/Igala statement which literally says "keep rejecting them" . It was silent on the subject - women. It became the name of our father and patriarch of the Akomah lineage of the Mordi Anukposi family of Ogbeogede, Uchebe in Ebu, Oshimili North local government area of Delta State, Nigeria. Akomah was therefore a nickname adopted by Thomas Bardi Mordi, one of the numerous sons of Mordi Anukposi. Mordi had over 40 children of his own. Akomah's mother was Akefu of Inyelen, (Edo state) a neighbouring Igala speaking community just across a small river called Utor. Akefu's mother, that is, Akomah's maternal grandmother was a very wealthy woman. She loved her extremely handsome grandson so much. He in fact was said to have lived with her until he became mature. So when he was to return home to Ebu, the grandmother gave him fifteen (15) cows, making him extremely rich even as a very young man. It is believed that his wealth attracted a lot of women to him and naturally he began to turn them down at will. Hence the name. It might have been a source of great fun and laughter at the time. However, in later years, all who knew him and those who merely heard of his exploits revered his memory not as a snubbed women but as a hardworking, disciplined and philanthropic man.
